Europe Within Reach
From Paris When It Sizzles To Roman Holiday
Ever wish to go "across the ocean"? Europe
can be a great vacation if you plan well.
The first item of business should be obtaining a valid passport. Everyone, even children,
must have one before leaving this country. It may take as long as 4-6 weeks to process the
passport application so start early. The circuit clerk's office or a travel agency can
give you more information.
Choosing a time of the year is also very important. All of Europe will have lower airfares
from November through March, but keep in mind that this time of year can be very cold in
many countries. Companies that offer escorted tours many times will not offer dates of
travel for winter months. Better months are April, May, September and October. Weather
conditions are better and prices are not as high as for summer travel.
Do I do my own thing or take an escorted tour? Many people feel more comfortable with a
tour. There are numerous options: one or more countries, length of stay and features
included. Acquire brochures from any travel agency or direct from the tour operator. If
you prefer to be more flexible, then design your own tour.
Travel within Europe can be done either by automobile or by train. Autos should be rented
prior to departing the U.S. for better prices. Rail travel is a wonderful means of
transportation and one used by Europeans as well as tourists. Trains in Europe go
everywhere and are always on time. You can purchase passes in advance for the days you
need or just purchase tickets from one city to the next.
Tourists often fear that language will be a problem. This is generally not the case. Many
people working in hotels, restaurants and public areas speak some English. Most young
adults have been taught English in school. Only in remote areas might you encounter a
population of non-English speaking people.
How about money exchange? You will have to convert U.S. dollars to the local currency.
Money exchange is not difficult and you will quickly catch on. It can be done at the
airport upon arrival, at most hotels, and at local banks. The exchange rate may very,
however. Generally, banks offer the best rate.
Sounds like an adventure, doesn't it? Europe is a great place to visit. From the beautiful
Alps of Switzerland, to the Black Forest of Germany. From Paris When It Sizzles to Roman
Holiday. Europe has something for everyone.
Consider a European vacation. It's not out of your reach, especially if you plan ahead.
It's also not that far away - less than a day by plane. Investigate the possibilities with
your local travel agency.
