DeSoto State Park
Description
DeSoto State Park, Alabama's "Home of
Mother Nature," is located on Lookout Mountain in Fort Payne, Alabama.
Visitor accommodations include a resort lodge, motel-restaurant, rustic vacation cottages,
mountain chalets, and camping areas. The resort lodge, set on a secluded mountaintop, has
25 guestrooms, all with access to a country porch and rocking chairs. The lodge also has
banquet facilities and meeting rooms available for groups. For the visitor who prefers the
privacy of a cabin, there are 22 furnished chalets and rustic cabins complete with
fireplaces to accommodate from 2 to 8 people. Camping facilities include both primitive
camping and sites with water and electric hookups.
There are an number of recreational and outdoor activities for visitors to DeSoto State
Park, including eight miles of hiking trails, picnic areas, playground, ball fields,
tennis courts, seasonal swimming pool, nature center, boardwalk trail and fishing in
Little River. No trip is complete without a scenic drive above Little River Canyon and a
view of DeSoto Falls. |
