District Judge Kim J. Chaney

Kim J. Chaney is a Cullman County native. Beginning his legal career over 20 years ago as a Cullman County Deputy Sheriff, Chaney worked his way through college as a law enforcement officer. After law school he opened an office for the private practice of law. In 1987, Chaney left private practice to accept a position as Cullman Assistant District Attorney. Five years later, in 1992, Chaney was elected District Judge of Cullman County.





Judge Chaney is the son of Jim Chaney and the late Jean-Ann Chaney, and the grandson of the late Novie and Ruth Chaney. His Parents and Grandparents owned and operated Chaney's Seed and Feed and Chaney's Feed Mill for many years.




Judge Chaney has been married for 16 years to Maureen Murphy. Mrs. Chaney is a Special Education Teacher. They have been blessed with a son and a daughter. Their son Alex is 7 years old, and daughter Emily is 4 years old.



Judge Chaney earned an undergraduate Degree from the University of Alabama. He was accepted in the University of Alabama's graduate school program and was awarded a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice, concentrating in Juvenile Justice. He then earned a Juris Doctorate Degree in law from the Birmingham School of Law.
