Sample Notice to Bad Check Writer

State law requries a Victim to send a 10-day notice to a worthless check writer before the bad check can be turned over to the District Attorney's Office. This notice must be sent by certified mail, return receipt requested.

The worthless check writer must be given the full ten days from the date of the notice to make the check good. If, however, the certified letter is returned, unclaimed, or undelivered, no waiting period is required.

A sample copy of a ten-day notice is shown below. This notice is provided by the District Attorney's Worthless Check Unit.
