Mission: The food stamp program is designed to promote the general welfare and to safeguard the health and well being of the nation's population by raising the levels of nutrition among low income households.
Services: Food stamp allotments are based on family income and participants receive a monthly allotment based on family size
Eligibility: Eligible households must meet federal standards for income and resources.  Some able-bodied food stamp receipients will only be eligible to receive food stamps for three months in a 36 month period unless they work or participate in certain training programs.  The maximum income level is based on family size.

Referral: Households must file food stamp applications by submitting the forms to the county department either in person, through an authorized representative, or by mail.
